Louis Roederer Cristal Dinner
Louis Roederer Cristal was originally produced in the 19th century for Tsar Alexander II. He asked his favourite Champagne house to reserve its best wines for the Russian royal court, and these were bottled in the finest lead crystal; hence the name.
Champagne is very sensitive to light, and clear bottles are not a particularly good idea, so later the bottles were wrapped in the iconic orange cellophane that is now as famous as the bottles.
Forget the rappers and the bling; most bottles of Cristal are consumed much too young, and by people with more money than taste. Cristal is quite simply one of the finest Champagnes money can buy, and mature Cristal is an experience not to be missed.
We will be serving four vintages of Cristal, along with other Champagnes from Louis Roederer, and a menu designed to demonstrate great Champagne’s much overlooked status as a food wine.
