Champagne Delavenne Père & Fils is a rare beast; a Champagne house that only uses fruit from Grand Cru vineyards. The 9 hectares of vineyards lie in Ambonnay and Bouzy, on the Montagne de Reims; famous for Pinot Noir, and in Cramant, on the Côtes des Blancs; famous for Chardonnay. The ‘Père & Fils’ in this case are Jean-Louis and Jean-Christophe Delavenne; third and fourth generation growers from Bouzy. Between them they have forged a burgeoning reputation for individual and serious Champagnes. The wines are fermented in stainless steel and don’t undergo malolactic fermentation. Non-vintage wines are a blend of two consecutive years, and many are from a single village; always Grand Cru. It’s a far cry from the unknown number of vintages and village wines that make up most standard non-vintage blends.
These are Champagnes with a sense of place!
The Delavenne house style is elegant and stylish; almost more of a wine than a fizz. They are Champagnes to pair with food or to savour like a fine wine, rather than to open for a casual celebration, yet they cost no more than a branded Champagne. Owner and winemaker Jean-Christophe Delavenne and export manager Susan Adda will be at Fox Fine Wines in Moorgate to present a range of six Champagnes alongside a specially designed menu.
Only sixteen tickets are available, so don’t hang about!
