Charlie Melton is a Barossa legend; not only is he one of the great exponents of the valley’s thriving wine style, but also one of the most entertaining people in the world of wine.
It’s now over thirty years since Charlie Melton set up his own eponymous winery in Tanunda, and in that time, he has been credited with rescuing Grenache, creating the first GSM blend, producing Australia’s most famous Rosé, as well as making some of the best Shiraz in South Australia. Nine Popes (I’ll let Charlie explain) and Rose of Virginia are Australian icons, whilst the more recent Voice of Angels and Grains of Paradise are following in their footsteps. Charlie’s unique approach to winemaking, as well as his unique approach to naming his wines, make this not a lunch to miss, though we don’t recommend operating machinery afterwards…..!
